Fault codes / P0217
SAE P0217 is coolant over-temp. Stop. Weichai trap: some ECU tables map P0217 to an SCR urea injector (SAE P2047). Read the caption and SPN. Not the same trap as P0116 (water in fuel on Weichai internal tables).
Which trucks see it
WD615, WP10–WP13, MC11/MC13 on Howo, Shacman, Sitrak. Heat, hills, dirty radiator, dead fan (P0480).
Symptoms
- gauge in the red
- steam, sweet smell
- fan silent
- confirm coolant vs SCR on the Weichai screen
Likely causes
- Low coolant, air pocket, leak.
- Fan clutch / solenoid — see P0480.
- Blocked radiator.
- Water pump.
- If the caption is urea — different branch, use the internal code.
What to check
- Stop, cool down, level on a cold engine.
- Fan and clutch.
- Pump drain and circulation.
- Read SPN. No invented OEM.
Can you keep driving
Do not drive while it is in alarm. Steam, lost level, milk on the dipstick — tow.
